According to INEGI data, in 2015 there were 58 thousand people living in the State of Colima.

Around the year 1886, in the town of Ixtlahuacán there was an Indigenous Community, to which
that the government stole their lands and it was extinguished by the government, due to their
interests. However, currently Don Francisco Olivares Reyes, has
formed a group of families from the town whom he named
“Indigenous Community”, considering themselves their descendants. This
project has been a great success, as it obtained land in the north and even the
Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL) has granted them resources, which have
allowed them to improve their infrastructure, since they now have a road to
access their plots and they also have productive projects of different
types.
It is worth mentioning that Don Francisco Olivares Reyes was born on January 29,
1935, is currently an adult over 85 years old, and is a native of
Ixtlahuacan. Throughout his entire life, he has been a social fighter, since from the

peasants have the right to work their own lands, he also fought for
equal opportunities because he says that “People that do not produce what they
eat, it is a poor town.”
This social struggle has led him to obtain Adult Recognition
Mayors, for their humanistic work. That's right, on August 28, 2019, Don
Francisco was awarded at the Awards for Older Adults, organized by the
state government, in order to recognize the valuable role that the
older adults in our society. The recognition was within the category
65 years of age or older, and was chosen by the Technical Committee. Furthermore, he
provided financial aid. The state government has stated that the

awards are awarded as a thank you to this sector, since they represent
wisdom and experience. Well, they are our roots, witnesses of the past
and inspiring the future. Although not all older adults are
recognized in that way, we must ensure that they feel proud of what
that they have managed to build.
