The deterioration of health is one of the problems faced by aging, for
that, the importance of the Government being able to assure the population that when they reach
advanced age, they will have quality medical services.
According to the definition given by the World Health Organization; "Health
Mental health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the
absence of illness or disease. in which the person performs
capabilities and is able to cope with the normal stresses of life, to work
productive way and contribute to their community. as a person
As you age, maintaining proper mental health becomes more complicated, as
increases the risk of physical problems (such as mobility difficulties,
chronic pain, frailty, among others) and mental (isolation, loss of
independence, loneliness and anguish, etc.), due to social conditions,
environmental, biological and psychological conditions in which older adults develop.
In this framework, Sinaloa has become the sixth state of the Republic
Mexican to pass its own Mental Health Law. Thus, in 2017, with the
objective of guaranteeing prevention, intervention and treatment services to
people suffering from mental and behavioral disorders, said
Law, since some studies revealed that more than 40,000 people in the
State suffered some type of depression or anxiety, added to the fact that it occupies the
number 16 suicide nationally.
In the concern to address the problems of the elderly, the State
also created its own Law on the Rights of Older Adults, in which
year 2017. In addition, in that same year the State Commission for Human Rights
Humans of Sinaloa, within the framework of the International Day of the Elderly,
carried out the "Elderly Persons" Conversation, with the aim of sensitizing the
population, business and government on the problems faced by adults
elderly, and generate public policy proposals for the protection of the Rights
Humans from this vulnerable sector. In this dialogue, it was also made aware
important it is for society to start dealing with these issues from the
educational and cultural aspects of society, and issues related to the
autonomy, independent life, medical care, decent life, social security and
access to resources.
There is no doubt that in 2017, Sinaloa worked to achieve the protection of
Human Rights of one of the most vulnerable sectors, and hopefully, just as
this State more take the initiative of creating Laws that support the
Older Adult People.
