According to data provided by INAPAM, Querétaro in 2015 housed
136 thousand 381 older adults, which represents 7.4% of its population
total.
Within the framework of the celebration of Grandfather's Day, the Government of the state of
Querétaro, in collaboration with the Board of Trustees of the DIF State System, carry out
various events and contests such as the Intergenerational Walk; the meeting
of Traditions and Customs; "Letter to my grandchildren" and "Letter to my grandparents", among
others. But one of the most popular events, since it manages to gather more than
thousand elderly people, is the already Traditional Gala Dance of the Elderly
or also known as the Dance of Remembrance, which has been held since the year
1990.
In this event, the contest of the State Queen of the Third Age and the
Grandfather of Gold, in its 2019 edition, 18 representatives of different
Municipal DIF systems, homes and independent groups of the third
age. However, who was the winner and crowned was Amada Mejía Elizondo
originally from the municipality of Tequisquiapan and her husband Juan Hernández Muñoz,
who was elected Golden Grandfather 2019.
During the contest, the participants had to go on stage to count their
anecdotes of life, interpret melodies and show the typical costumes of their
respective municipalities. In addition, an economic aid of 18 thousand pesos was granted,
which was distributed among the winners of each category. Also, in the event

dance and sing to the attendees of the event.
These celebrations are carried out with the aim that Adult People
Seniors can reaffirm their identity, promoting and instilling values,
traditions and customs to the youngest, so that they feel
self-sufficient and productive, to improve their quality of life, physical health and
mental health.
